Welcome!

Spaces Places People: Collecting Demographic Change is a proposed collection for the Field Museum in Chicago, Illinois. The proposed collection would focus on the history of demographic change and gentrification in Chicago, using objects, documents, and maps to showcase the materiality of this phenomenon that is so often discussed in the abstract. Another goal of the collection is to stimulate dialogue and public engagement around these important topics.

To the left, please find pages describing each of the three major thematic units of the proposed collection: spaces, places, and people, as well as a textual narrative elaborating on the collection and its justification and a page with links and resources.
