People

This portion of the collection will focus on the everyday lived experiences of gentrification and demographic change, attempting to put a human face on a process routinely described in very abstract terms. This portion of the collection will include:

  • photographs of individuals somehow impacted by gentrification in Chicago (150 individuals)
  • photographs of families, archival and current (40 families)
  • oral histories & video diaries (40-60 individuals)

Because this part of the collection is the most important, it should comprise approximately 1/2 the collection. This stronger focus on people will translate the collection's desire to put a human face on gentrification, and adopt an anthropological lens.
